Beaver Creek master craftsman and owner, Jules Obomsawin, started his company in 1979. Jules' natural talent and skill in handcrafting was perfected at the two most well known schools of log building, the Pat Wolfe School of Log Building and the Allen Mackie School of Log Building. Jules artistry and quality joinery is evident in his log work, meticulously building every structure for our clients with a limited crew of assistances. He can only produce one-three homes per year depending on the size, scope of work, and type of detail specified within the home. He uses only hand-held-tools and large diameter logs that he carefully scribed one to another ----a slow and most precise way to fit the unique contours of two logs together. The result is a fit so tight the logs look as though they grew together.
Robbin Obomsawin is Beaver Creek’s construction manager and general contractor. Robbin served two consecutive terms as vice-president of the American Log Builders Association. Robbin combines many years of log joinery experience with a knowledge of conventional construction, providing unique insight into new and old forms of handcrafted technologies. Robbin has written six books on handcrafted log home design and general contracting these specialized structures. Robbin has won many design awards for her log homes and hybrids. She has been featured on many PBS specials, radio talk shows, interviewed in New York Times, New York Journal, USA Today, and has written many feature articles for Log Home Illustrated, Log Home Living, Log Home Design Ideas, Timber-frame Illustrated and Cabin Life Magazine.
Jasson Obomsawin has worked for Beaver Creek since he was 12 years old, starting with work around the office. At the age of 14 he was helping his dad in the log yard during summer vacations, and then he continued on to work full-time once he graduated from Union Springs Academy. Jasson showed a natural talent with handcrafted log building at an early age and has progressed rapidly. As a test to show him how deceivingly hard log building can be, his mom and dad gave him the responsibility of building a complex roof system in his second season of building. The lesson turned around on his parents, who were expecting to come back from their vacation to have to fully redo all the log connections. Much to their surprise, Jasson had figured out the compound angles and calculations and then built the roof. We have been challenging him even more ever since.
Jessica Obomsawin, wife of our son Jasson, was tricked into learning the business of design and drafting. Jessica comes from a multi-generational family of home painters, which she began to learn at an early age. Jessica’s debut with Beaver Creek was when she was handed a sponge and some paints and told that she was now a faux finisher and specialty wood technique applicator. She picked up the new application quickly and found her inner sole of an artist. Jessica is now working with the customization of stock plan designs for Beaver Creek’s clients. Her work is conscientious and meticulous, with a great understanding of the importance of excellence in good design within our specialty trade.
